UK Government criticised for removing occupations from HSMP List

Gordon Brown has decided it is time to talk about Immigration after years of failure to devise a policy that works.

Frequently Australian Immigration policy is referred to as the best example of an "in touch" migration program that achieves its objectives.

So why has the UK been so bad at establishing an immigration program when all they had to do was copy the Australian or Canadian immigration example? How much   taxpayers money has been wasted   by years of immigration   mis-manangement by British civil servants in the Home Office?

With this sort of record, it is little wonder that the latest ideas of removing some occupations from the list under the HSMP is being looked at with suspicion by a number of experts within the UK.

Far too many unskilled people are finding their way into the UK through student visa scams, lenient asylum rules and poor border enforcement. The future of Immigration in the UK is very worrying with predictions of a population increase of up to 10 million (from 60 to 70 million) over the next 30 years.

Australia Immigration policy   has been admired for years - is it so hard to follow this example?

Perth Mining Boom on the Way !

Perth is on the verge of a new mining boom according to the Telegraph in UK today.

Australia Immigration is a great option for the future and when UK is still in recession, one must consider the potential for growth in raw material rich lands such as Australia.

Alternatively, Canada  offers similar growth potential as according to Bloomberg this morning, Asia will lead world recovery - Asian manufacturing will drag Australia & Canada into a new economic growth phase and jobs will once again be available to the right skilled people..with the right visa.

Australia & New Zealand Migrants Take Note !

Australia & New Zealand are flavour of the Month !

Bill English has returned from his Asian Tour clearly very upbeat by the reception he received.

"Relative to other OECD countries they see us coming out of the recession in better shape."

The reason for that was that New Zealand and Australia did not have a banking crisis; their public finances were under control and "they see us as benefiting from the Chinese slipstream".

This really re-inforces what we have been saying for sometime....they are going to come out of recession more vigouressly down under than in Europe.

NZ Immigration - migrants have a chance to see breathtaking beauty

New Zealand by camper van. If you have never travelled through the South Island, it is a must do before you die.

Quite a good article from the Telegraph - migrants get to see a whole lot of beauty virtually on their doorstep by moving  to New Zealand.

The NZ Immigration requirements focus largely on whether you are able to get a permanent job offer - another route in for many is the Long Term Business Visa - this gives people the chance to open their own business on a temporary visa and convert to a permanent visa at a later date. The capital requirements are often not so great as for Australian Business Visas.

Immigration Service Visa Processing Times

One of the biggest concerns to would-be migrants is always " how long will my application take".

This is always a moving feast - the factors that influence this answer   are complex as well.

The quotas of visas to be granted in a given year are determined by the Minister for Immigration and based upon political expediency and data from a number of governmental sources. This data reflects economic and political considerations and even forthcoming electioneering can influence thinking on this issue.

A range of other factors play a part and one that is beyond the control of the any Immigration Service is the number of applications received for particular visa classes. It is very difficult to predict how many applications will be received, due to issues around the world frequently leading to spikes in the numbers.

Fees charged, Language requirements, pre-application processes to satisfy...all to some extent control the numbers of applications received, but in recent years we have seen queues lengthen dramatically. Backlogs then start to impact on the process and cause massive frustration to certain visa applicants.

Average visa processing times published by immigration services provide some general idea about overall expectations, but it is the exception that proves the rule...and each application is unique.

What is absolutely certain, is that the quality of documentation submitted and the efficiency in how the application is managed during its entire process that achieves minimum timeframes. A reputable migration agent   will keep processing times to a minimum and how much money and stress this saves is   incalculable.

As the old saying goes, patience is a virtue...and the sooner one applies, usually the sooner the visa is granted !

Poms look to Australia & New Zealand for Immigration & jobs in 2009

If you are thinking of emigrating , then this article is worth a read.

Have Australia and New Zealand been spared the worst of the global recession? Increased interest in immigration to these countries has shown a surge of enquiries according to Hays Recruitment and most migration agents are seeing strong activity as 2009 progresses.

There are certainly regions and industries down under that seem to be little affected and what is more are looking ahead to the growth phase following recession with optimism. Raw materials abound in Australia and once manufacturing starts to grow again in Asia, the chain reaction of wealth creation will function tirelessly as all try to make up for lost time. Australia & New Zealand could well be the place to be in the second decade of the 21st Century.

Once again one stresses that increased demand for a limited number of immigration visas and fewer jobs available in Australia Canada & New Zealand will result in stiffening criteria being employed by immigration authorities. As always, procrastination is the biggest enemy of the would-be migrant.

Australia Immigration policies under review

Australian Immigration policies are constantly under review by the Australian government. Immigration whether it be to Australia, Canada or New Zealand is a very contentious political hot potato. Declining birth rates in developed countries mean that to avoid a shrinking population ...and economy...immigration of the right type of applicant becomes a very attractive solution. However,   some citizens...and that means voters... have a xenophobic view of things and see the admittance of highly skilled people as a threat to the status quo and so see immigration to Australia, Canada or New Zealand as a negative as they think their jobs might be affected.

It is a political tightrope and in times of world recession, immigration policies come under intense scrutiny and it is wise for would be migrants to recognise that their potential to emigrate is not a constant, but a window of opportunity. When their age, health and skills match immigration criteria, it is wise to stop procrastinating and act swiftly.

Australia Canada & New Zealand will I think align their immigration policy to specific skill shortages in specific regions of their countries and a more frequent referral to local demands of employers will be reflected in policy. For more information on changes to immigration policy see www.emigrating.tel

Humble Pie...my least favourite food !

Well, England pulled it off ! A great victory at the Oval and they have deservedly won back the Ashes....and last week I was certain the Aussies had come good just as they had reached the home straight.

Poor Aussie team selection for the Oval helped England in their quest, but you can't deny the better team won through. Some gutsy performances and a good game plan has sent the Aussies into oblivion....however it is a young Aussie team and come December 2010, they will be more experienced and chomping at the bit for a home result. Something to aim for at least.

Now only a sore loser would suggest that the S African imports into the England side (Strauss, Pietersen, Prior and now Trott) are providing the Southern hemisphere influence that is so crucial to win the really big games !

Well done England......roll on December 2010 !

NZ Immigration Good for Economy, though putting pressure on job market.

The NZ economy is benefiting from the increase in net immigration and this is helpful for the housing market in particular. Job prospects are tough. Get Going Migration Agents always suggest clients appreciate the volatile nature of a migration policy so closely linked with job offers, far more so than Australian or Canadian policy. Of course New Zealand is a much smaller population and economy with the need for a "micro" touch to immigration issues.

Swine Flu Latest for Get Going Ltd. Australian Canadian Immigration clients

As Get Going Ltd. Immigration Agents clients have been phoning asking for information about the Swine Flu situation in their destination countries, we will put links on our blog from time to time that may be of help. Clearly, the virus is spreading globally and will continue to be in the ascendancy for the next 12 months, with vaccine manufacture taking time to reach all affected areas - the developed world will likely be the first to receive these stocks and Australia, Canada, NZ & UK will be among them. Those emigrating can be assured that health standards are pretty similar in these countries and the response to the outbreak fully agreed and co-ordinated in Australia Canada & NZ, based upon WHO international protocols. Immigration precautions such as infra-red monitoring have proven ineffective and the virus, said to have mild consequences in most cases, is now regarded as unstoppable.

As this is a situation that is constantly changing and H1N1 Swine Flu has a range of different influencing factors, such as the Northern & Southern hemisphere seasons, we shall keep bloggers informed of any interesting developments.

Cold weather in Sydney but Aussie Cricket team will warm the locals up !

Although the weather is a tad wintry in Sydney, eyes of the locals are focusing very much on London over the next few days.

Those recently arrived immigrants (several being former Australian Immigration clients of Get Going Ltd.) whom have never been "down under" during an Ashes series are finding out just how seriously the locals take it. And England's performance last week was nothing to inspire the emigres with much hope for the coming weeks!

The spirit that the England squad had 4 years ago seems to have vanished.

After a questionable bit of gamesmanship in the first test, England are going into the second with the knowledge that they were delivered from a bashing in the press just by the skin of their teeth. Had they lost, the criticism of their performance in the match would have left them reeling.

Let's face it, the Aussies have worked out Pietersen and through aggressive and deadly accurate bowling have largely neutralised him as a major threat in this series.

In the bowling department, Johnson led the way and I think he can only get better on this tour. england seem to have no answer other than to look to Harmison, who is way past his "sell by"date.

Ricky Ponting came out of the blocks and answered Thomo's criticism of his captaincy with a stunning 150 and with batting of the calibre the Aussies put on in their innings, I hate to be a prophet of doom for the Poms, but I think Lords may turn out to be a tough outing for them !

Whatever, "down under" and in the UK, the next week will provide some great cricketing entertainment and no doubt deliver some answers for all.

Australia Canada and NZ jobs less affected than UK

Australia Canada & New Zealand job markets have been affected far less than USA or UK so far. The geographical distance from the financial hubs of London and New York have been a blessing to   these economies. Though global demand for raw materials and commodities has fallen, the massive exposure to banking debt is limited.

Job markets are accordingly less pressurised than in UK or USA and skilled people will be required when the recessionary condition lift, so the cost of redundancy and re-hiring further down the line makes retaining staff now worthwhile.

Remember, current immigration policies reflect the needs for skills and importing them is both cheaper and quicker than developing them locally, so you are favoured in your destination country if you are successful in your immigration application!

Australian Immigration with Get Going UK- a great choice in 2009.

Australia's Economy to be Spared Financial Catastrophe facing UK

Australia's economy is proving more fortunate than the UK's. Without the same exposure to banking problems and being rich in raw materials, many pundits are sensing that a shallow recession will end later this year when US and European revival plans for infrastructure lead to increased demand for commodities.

With vast mineral deposits and relatively low debt, Australia will likely respond quickly to stimulus packages from the developed world, without needing to borrow the £ Billions that the UK is currently doing.

With UK citizens being saddled with massive debt for years to come and inevitably higher taxes, it is certain that levels of Immigration to Australia from the UK are to increase. Applications from all over the World will rise and the Australian Government may have to become more selective in who they allow in.

As always, it is better to apply for Australian Work Permits or Permanent Residence Visas sooner rather than later if you want to relocate to Australia.

Fires still out of control in Victoria, Australia, but it's no longer red hot news !

A few days only have passed since the bushfires were the major item in every paper, on the web and all major TV networks around the globe.

The weakness of the news industry, is that it is a traveling circus, stopping only briefly at the scene of disaster or scandal, then moving on to the next pitch. Meanwhile, the ordinary people remaining when the big top leaves town, mop or clear up and try to rebuild their lives, all in the shadow of the momentary fame that shone upon their part of the world. They return to anonymity and nobody cares anymore.

The Australian press, like the SMH (http://www.smh.com.au/) still publish the follow up pieces, such as the arrest of Brendan Sokaluk on suspicion of arson, but the bright supernova of infamy is dulling toward red dwarf status within   literally a few days.

Back to the global financial crisis and submarines full of nuclear weapons colliding in the Atlantic - both news items that make thoughts of Australian Immigration seem like a really sensible idea !!

Australia Immigration Visa Demand likely to Increase with Global Recession

It will be interesting to see if the global recession leads to an increase in the number of applications for Australian work and immigration visas received by DIMIA in the months ahead. Certainly, here in Plymouth we are receiving a large spike in enquiries and my view is that this trend is probably going to continue as 2009 progresses...and more skeletons fall out of the closet from the UK banking sector !

The fires in Victoria have brought so much tragedy this week and we send our condolences to everybody who has suffered some sort of loss. If these fires have been set deliberately it is really sickening. The pictures in the papers of the rescued koalas were good to see.
